Ha Gobo is a Japanese delicacy grown primarily for its edible, rich green leaves. Often found in premier Japanese markets. You will know it by its distinctive pale white stalks agains the green leaves. Roots typically grow to about 6 inches long.
Sowing instructions
Prepare fertile, well-drained soil. Sow seeds in spring or early autumn in a sunny location. Improve germination by soaking seeds for 24 hours in warm water. The seeds will not germinate without sensing light. The seeds must therefore be barely covered. Keep soil moist.
Growing instructions
Thin later to 15 cm between plants. Keep soil moist. Harvest young and tender leaves. Use leaves and roots parboiled in salads and ohitashi, fried in tempura, or for pickles.
